Life’s Lessons Learned

I had another blog post in mind, but I got some news yesterday that changed my mind and basically forced my hand.  I found out one of my wife’s former students committed suicide by hanging herself in her backyard.  This is sad on so many levels, but none more so than the child’s age.  She was 11.

Think about that for a minute; an 11 year old thought life was too hard and killed herself.

I was completely distraught for a few minutes after I found out.  I got better, but it took a few minutes.  I talked to my wife, and she took the news pretty bad.  She’s improved a bit, but she’s still bummed out about it.

That brings me to the purpose of this post.  The purpose is for everyone to cherish life and don’t take anything for granted.  If you have the chance to touch someone’s life, do so in a positive manner and not a negative one.  If you have children, treat them right and raise them right.  Don’t neglect them in any way and treat them any less than the angels they really are.

You only have one shot to make an impression on someone; don’t waste that one shot by imbuing negativity.  You never know how long that person will be around.

This is a jumble of a post, but that’s because I’m still in a state of disbelief.  I don’t know which hurts me more; the fact that the child killed herself, the fact that the child’s parents didn’t care, or the fact that the students didn’t feel the need to report this because they knew about it, but didn’t care.

It’s all very disheartening, and it’s a sad state of affairs.  I only hope that this child is finally at peace, because – outside of a chosen few – it’s evident that she was never at peace with those that were supposed to help support her.
